Bamboo

A low-proof, savory aperitif of dry sherry and dry vermouth with bitters — light, nutty, and bracing. The original 'before-dinner' cocktail.

Ingredients

  • Dry Sherry1½ ounces
  • Dry Vermouth1½ ounces
  • Angostura Bitters1 dash
  • Orange Bitters1 dash
  • Lemon Twist1 each

Directions

Stir dry sherry, dry vermouth, and both bitters with ice until cold. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Notes

Created in the 1880s at the Grand Hotel in Yokohama by bartender Louis Eppinger. Equal parts sherry and dry vermouth; a sibling of the Adonis. Uses the new fortified-wine base.
