Bitter Mai Tai

A Mai Tai rebuilt around mezcal and Campari — smoke and bitterness where rum's sweetness would be, with orgeat and lime holding the tiki bones.

Ingredients

  • Mezcal1½ ounces
  • Campari¾ ounce
  • Orange Curaçao½ ounce
  • Fresh Lime Juice¾ ounce
  • Orgeat½ ounce
  • Mint Sprig1 each

Directions

Shake mezcal, Campari, orange curaçao, lime juice, and orgeat with ice. Pour over crushed ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a mint sprig and lime.
