Rye, fresh grapefruit, and grenadine — a tart, pink highball-sour that's brighter than it has any right to be. A Prohibition-era oddball reborn.

Ingredients

  • Rye Whiskey2 ounces
  • Fresh Grapefruit Juice1 ounce
  • Grenadine½ ounce
  • Grapefruit Twist1 each

Directions

Shake rye, grapefruit juice, and grenadine with ice. Double-strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.

Notes

From Patrick Gavin Duffy's 1934 'Official Mixer's Manual'. Modern bartenders swap the original raspberry syrup for grenadine or keep it; grapefruit is the constant.
