Brandy Alexander

Cognac, crème de cacao, cream. 1920s European cocktail. Originally the drink of choice for those who didn't want to taste alcohol — sweet, rich, dessert-like.

Ingredients

  • Cognac VS1 ounce
  • Brown Crème de Cacao1 ounce
  • Heavy Cream1 ounce
  • Freshly Grated Nutmeg1 pinch

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake hard until well-chilled. Double-strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Notes

Made famous as John Lennon's regular drink during his Lost Weekend. Quality cognac is wasted; VS works fine.
