A tart rye sour with grenadine and bitters — dark pink, spicy, and brisk. A pre-Prohibition drink that deserves the comeback.

Ingredients

  • Rye Whiskey2 ounces
  • Fresh Lemon Juice¾ ounce
  • Grenadine½ ounce
  • Orange Bitters2 dashes
  • Lemon Twist1 each

Directions

Shake rye, lemon juice, grenadine, and bitters with ice. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Documented in early-1900s manuals. Lemon and grenadine over rye, with bitters for backbone.
