Light rum, lime, Coca-Cola. Cuba, 1900s. The drink that made rum-and-Coke a thing — but the squeeze of fresh lime is what turns it into a real cocktail.

Ingredients

  • Light Rum2 ounces
  • Fresh Lime Juice½ ounce
  • Coca-Cola4 ounces
  • Lime Wedge1 each

Directions

Squeeze a lime wedge into a highball glass; drop it in. Fill with ice. Add rum. Top with Coca-Cola. Stir very briefly.

Notes

Fresh lime is non-negotiable — the difference between a Cuba Libre and a rum-and-Coke. Real Coca-Cola, full sugar.
