El Presidente

Light rum, dry vermouth Blanc, curaçao, grenadine. Cuba, 1920s. What Cubans drank at the height of the Cuban cocktail era.

Ingredients

  • Light Rum1½ ounces
  • Dry Vermouth Blanc1½ ounces
  • Orange Curaçao½ ounce
  • Grenadine1 bar spoon
  • Orange Peel1 each

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe. Express an orange peel over and drop it in.

Notes

Quality light rum (Bacardi 4 or Plantation 3 Stars). Named for the Cuban President Gerardo Machado.
