Fish House Punch

Aged rum, cognac, peach brandy, lemon, sugar, water. State in Schuylkill Fishing Company, Philadelphia, 1732. America's oldest punch. Washington reportedly couldn't write for three days after drinking it.

Ingredients

  • Aged Rum2 ounces
  • Cognac VSOP1 ounce
  • Peach Brandy½ ounce
  • Fresh Lemon Juice¾ ounce
  • Simple Syrup½ ounce
  • Water1 ounce
  • Lemon Slice1 each

Directions

Dissolve sugar in lemon juice and water in a punch bowl. Add rum, cognac, and peach brandy. Stir gently. Add a large ice block. Garnish with thin lemon slices floating on top.

Notes

Peach brandy is hard to find authentic; Mathilde Pêches works. True batch drink — make 24 servings, dilute properly, let sit on a large ice block.
