Variant
Gin or vodka and lime, simply. The original used Rose's lime cordial — invented to prevent scurvy on British naval ships.

Ingredients
- London Dry Gin2 ounces
- Fresh Lime Juice¾ ounce
- Simple Syrup½ ounce
- Lime Wheel1 each
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake until well-chilled. Double-strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lime wheel.
Notes
Rose's version is historically accurate but cloyingly sweet. The fresh version below is the craft-bar default.
