Horchata Base

Rice and cinnamon soaked, blended, and strained into a creamy spiced base — the foundation of horchata.

Ingredients

  • White Rice1 cup
  • Cinnamon Sticks2 each
  • Water4 cups
  • Sugar0.5 cup
  • Vanilla Extract1 teaspoon

Directions

Soak 1 cup white rice and 2 cinnamon sticks in 4 cups water overnight. Blend until smooth, then strain twice through fine mesh. Sweeten with 1/2 cup sugar and a splash of vanilla.

Notes

A genuine technique, not a pour. Soaking overnight is what gives the body; double-strain through fine mesh or cheesecloth for smoothness.
