Variant

Whiskey, honey, lemon, hot water, cloves. The traditional medicinal hot drink, dating to 18th-century Scotland.

Ingredients

  • Bourbon Whiskey2 ounces
  • Fresh Lemon Juice½ ounce
  • Honey½ ounce
  • Hot Water4 ounces
  • Cloves3 each
  • Lemon Peel1 each

Directions

Add honey to the bottom of a mug. Add whiskey and lemon juice. Top with hot water and stir to dissolve honey. Stud a lemon peel with cloves and float on top. Garnish with cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Use bourbon, rye, or Scotch — all work. Real honey, not syrup. Stud a lemon peel with cloves for the aromatic edge.
