Hurricane

Light and dark rum, passion fruit, citrus, sugar. Pat O'Brien's, New Orleans, 1940s. A rum punch invented to use up excess rum during WWII.

Ingredients

  • Light Rum2 ounces
  • Dark Rum2 ounces
  • Fresh Lime Juice1 ounce
  • Fresh Orange Juice1 ounce
  • Passion Fruit Syrup1 ounce
  • Simple Syrup½ ounce
  • Orange Slice1 each
  • Brandied Cherry1 each

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice. Shake briefly. Pour unstrained into a hurricane glass. Garnish with an orange slice and a brandied cherry.

Notes

Real passion fruit syrup (Liber & Co or homemade), not the neon-red mix. The drink is bold and tropical, not the slushy disaster it sometimes becomes.
