Japanese Cocktail

Cognac, orgeat, Angostura. Jerry Thomas, 1862. One of the earliest documented cocktails with orgeat. Named during the first Japanese diplomatic mission to the U.S.

Ingredients

  • Cognac VSOP2 ounces
  • Orgeat½ ounce
  • Angostura Bitters2 dashes
  • Lemon Peel1 each

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe. Express a lemon peel over and drop it in.

Three ingredients, stirred. The orgeat is the star.
