Mai Tai

Trader Vic's 1944 masterpiece: aged rum, orange curaçao, orgeat, lime. The drink that defined tiki done right — no fruit-juice slurry, just sharp citrus and almond depth.

Ingredients

  • Aged Jamaican Rum1 ounce
  • Rhum Agricole1 ounce
  • Orange Curaçao½ ounce
  • Orgeat¼ ounce
  • Fresh Lime Juice1 ounce
  • Mint Sprig1 each
  • Spent Lime Shell1 each

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice. Shake briefly. Pour unstrained into a double rocks glass. Garnish with a mint sprig and the spent lime shell.

Notes

Original used 17-year J. Wray & Nephew Jamaican rum (now extinct). Blend of aged Jamaican and Martinique rhum agricole gets close.
