A tequila sour with grenadine and bitters — tart, red, and spiced. A 1930s Mexico City drink recorded by a traveling cocktail chronicler.

Ingredients

  • Blanco Tequila2 ounces
  • Fresh Lime Juice¾ ounce
  • Grenadine½ ounce
  • Angostura Bitters3 dashes
  • Lime Wheel1 each

Directions

Shake tequila, lime juice, grenadine, and bitters with ice. Strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Documented by Charles H. Baker Jr. from La Cucaracha bar, Mexico City, in his 1939 'Gentleman's Companion'. Lime and grenadine over blanco, with plenty of bitters.
