Old Fashioned

The original cocktail. Whiskey, sugar, bitters, ice — the four-element definition of what a cocktail was when the word was coined in 1806.

  • Bourbon Whiskey2 ounces
  • Demerara Syrup1 teaspoon
  • Angostura Bitters3 dashes
  • Orange Peel1 each

Add sugar, bitters, and a splash of water to a rocks glass. Stir to dissolve. Add a large ice cube and the whiskey. Stir 20-30 rotations. Express the orange peel over the glass and drop it in.

Bourbon for warmth, rye for spice, brandy for the original Wisconsin form. Orange peel is non-optional.
