The Negroni's dry, spiky cousin — rye, dry vermouth, and Campari, no sweetness anywhere. A Manhattan-Campari hybrid for confirmed bitter drinkers.

Ingredients

  • Rye Whiskey1½ ounces
  • Dry Vermouth¾ ounce
  • Campari¾ ounce
  • Lemon Twist1 each

Directions

Stir rye, dry vermouth, and Campari with ice until cold. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Notes

In print by 1927 in Harry MacElhone's 'Barflies and Cocktails' (Harry's New York Bar, Paris); originally equal parts with Canadian whisky and sweet vermouth. Modern practice is rye, dry vermouth, and a 2:1:1 or even split. Verified.
