A Manhattan dressed for the races — rye, sweet vermouth, Bénédictine, and bitters. Richer and rounder than the standard, with a honeyed herbal finish.

Ingredients

  • Rye Whiskey2 ounces
  • Sweet Vermouth¾ ounce
  • Bénédictine¼ ounce
  • Angostura Bitters2 dashes
  • Lemon Twist1 each

Directions

Stir rye, sweet vermouth, Bénédictine, and Angostura with ice until cold. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Notes

Documented in Ted Saucier's 1951 'Bottoms Up'. The Bénédictine is what separates it from a plain Manhattan.
