Saratoga

Equal parts rye, cognac, sweet vermouth, with Angostura. Jerry Thomas, 1887. Spirit-forward, complex — the original whiskey-cognac combination.

Ingredients

  • Rye Whiskey1 ounce
  • Cognac VSOP1 ounce
  • Sweet Vermouth1 ounce
  • Angostura Bitters2 dashes
  • Brandied Cherry1 each

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a brandied cherry.

Notes

Two-base structure: rye and cognac in equal parts. Stirred and served up.
