Sidecar

Cognac, Cointreau, lemon. The drink that proved a sour template works with any base.

Ingredients

• Cognac VSOP2 ounces
• Cointreau¾ ounce
• Fresh Lemon Juice¾ ounce
• Lemon Twist1 each
• Sugar (rim, optional) (optional)1 pinch

Directions

If using a sugar rim, rim half a chilled coupe with sugar. Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake until well-chilled. Double-strain into the coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Notes

Equal-parts 1:1:1 is bracing; this is the slightly softer modern form. VS or VSOP cognac — XO is wasted in a shaken drink.
