A rich, fortified Manhattan cousin — rye, port, and dark rum bound by bitters. A New York racetrack drink of unusual depth.

Ingredients

  • Rye Whiskey1½ ounces
  • Ruby Port½ ounce
  • Dark Rum½ ounce
  • Angostura Bitters1 dash
  • Orange Bitters1 dash
  • Orange Twist1 each

Directions

Stir rye, port, dark rum, and both bitters with ice until cold. Strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with an orange twist.

Notes

An old New York classic named for the Suburban Handicap, documented in early manuals. Three different barrels of warmth in one glass.
