Gin, brandy, lime, ginger beer, Angostura. Joe Scialom at the Long Bar of Shepheard's Hotel, Cairo, 1942. Invented for hungover British soldiers in WWII.

Ingredients

  • London Dry Gin1 ounce
  • Cognac VSOP1 ounce
  • Fresh Lime Juice½ ounce
  • Angostura Bitters2 dashes
  • Ginger Beer4 ounces
  • Mint Sprig1 each
  • Orange Slice1 each

Directions

Combine gin, brandy, lime, and bitters in a highball glass with ice. Top with ginger beer. Stir briefly. Garnish with a mint sprig and an orange slice.

Notes

The original used equal parts gin and brandy. Real ginger beer, not ale.
