Tequila Daisy

The drink the Margarita grew out of — tequila, lemon, and grenadine lengthened with soda over ice. 'Daisy' is 'margarita' in Spanish, and this is the ancestor.

Ingredients

  • Blanco Tequila2 ounces
  • Fresh Lemon Juice¾ ounce
  • Grenadine½ ounce
  • Soda Water2 ounces
  • Lemon Wheel1 each

Directions

Shake tequila, lemon juice, and grenadine with ice. Strain into an ice-filled tall glass and top with soda. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Notes

A genuine pre-Margarita daisy documented in the early 20th century. Many credit it as the Margarita's direct forerunner — same bones, soda instead of straight-up.
