The Love Hangover

This is the second drink in the Luscious Luxury series. A batched-for-two stirred rum dessert sipper — almond-forward with ginger and spiced pear as matched bridges, chocolate bitters underneath, finished with a flamed Grand Marnier rinse. Built as a drink for two.

  • Doorly's XO rum3 ounces
  • Orgeat1 ounce
  • Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur½ ounce
  • St George Spiced Pear Liqueur½ ounce
  • Aztec Chocolate bitters4 dashes
  • Angostura bitters2 dashes
  • Grand Marnier (flamed rinse)½ ounce
  • Fresh grated nutmeg (optional)1 pinch

Batch for two. Rinse two coupes with Grand Marnier and flame the rinse, letting it burn out. Allow the glasses to cool. Combine Doorly's XO, orgeat, Domaine de Canton, St George Spiced Pear, chocolate bitters, and Angostura in a mixing glass with ice. Stir the drink cold and strain into the warmed coupes. Grate fresh nutmeg over the top (optional). For Sean's version, smoke the finished drink with oak chips in a smoke chimney before serving.

SERIES: Luscious Luxury series, #2 of 12. 1. Brownie Batter 2. The Love Hangover TWO VERSIONS: - Greg's: finished with fresh grated nutmeg. Stays warm-pastry / frangipane in character. - Sean's: smoked after building with oak chips in a smoke chimney. The oak smoke turns it autumnal and savory-edged, giving the stacked sweetness a savory counterweight the nutmeg version doesn't have.
