Whiskey, lemon, sugar, optional egg white. The template that birthed dozens of variations.

Ingredients

  • Bourbon Whiskey2 ounces
  • Fresh Lemon Juice¾ ounce
  • Simple Syrup¾ ounce
  • Egg White (optional)1 each
  • Angostura Bitters (garnish)3 dashes

Directions

Combine whiskey, lemon, syrup, and egg white in a shaker. Dry-shake hard 10 seconds. Add ice and shake again. Double-strain into a rocks glass over a large cube. Garnish with 3 dashes of bitters across the foam.

Notes

Bourbon for sweetness, rye for bite. With egg white, dry-shake first, then shake with ice.
